It’s finally arrived. The Sessions, a band rehearsal and live performance opportunity for the more mature player.
This is for the selfless folk who always had a passion for music and may have played in bands in a previous life yet work, kids and responsibilities meant forgoing your love of music. It’s time to give back to you.. you know you deserve it. Unleash the rock god/goddess within!
Over a 6 week period, you’ll meet new players, form bands, write original music, learn and rehearsal some of your favourite songs. You’ll prepare for a video and audio recording session and then play a live show, all under the guidance and mentorship of Baby Animals guitarist Dave Leslie and the irrepressible Phil Ceberano.
Tune up, plug in, let’s rock.
See ya at the sessions.
Starting on Monday, February 21 in the Belfry at Bakehouse Studios, we’ll have a jam, a few wines or beers, some cheese (so they say) and a songwriting session. Dave and Phil will then place everyone in bands to start the preparations for The Sunday Sessions on Sunday, April 3 in the bandroom at the Westwood Hotel in Footscray.
In between, we’ll stage rehearsals each Monday night (Feb 28, March 7, 15 & 21)) at The Wick Studios in Brunswick to write and hone your original song and three cover songs ready for the Big Gig. Dave and Phil will be on hand to help refine the songs, improve performances and to generally cause a little havoc.
The Monday before the Sunday Session (March 28) we’ll set up in The Scrap Museum at Bakehouse Studios in Richmond and bring in a camera crew and the audio recording crew to capture each band performing their original song and one of the prepared cover songs. We’ll edit this together and on Sunday, April 17 release a video on Facebook and YouTube of the performances. That means less pressure at The Sunday Session and more time to just have fun.
There are some Government restrictions in place at the moment as to numbers or people etc in rooms, mask wearing and more.
We are all double vaccinated here at Rock Academy (including mentors and crew) and whilst we respect people’s rights not to get the vaccination, it will be a condition of entering both Bakehouse, The Wick Studios and Hotel Westwood that you present proof of vaccination. As such, please don’t register with the knowledge that you won’t be double vaxxed when the program is scheduled and please don’t arrive at the live show with supporters that are not double vaccinated and put the Hotel in the position of denying them entry.
There are limited places for the inaugural release of The Sessions, so be swift and register now.
